Owens Corning Ridge Vent Installation: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Owens Corning ridge vent systems throughout Fort Worth, with most complete installations running between $45 and $75 per linear foot depending on roof pitch, ridge length, and the condition of the existing decking. Most Fort Worth homeowners discover their ridge vent has failed the same way: a hot upstairs in July, a spike in the electric bill, or granules from disintegrating vent material washing into the gutter after a spring storm. If you’re seeing any of that, the fix is usually a same-week job, not a major re-roof.

Ridge vents are the quiet workhorses of your attic ventilation system. They run along the peak of the roof, letting hot air escape continuously across the entire ridge line. When they fail, the attic stops breathing, and everything above your ceiling starts paying for it, shingles, sheathing, insulation, and your AC unit. The good news is that compared to most roofing problems, ridge vent replacement is a contained, predictable job with pricing we can give you in writing before the first shingle comes off.
Which Owens Corning Models This Applies To
Owens Corning manufactures two primary ridge vent lines that we work with most often in Fort Worth: the VentSure® series and the DeckSeal™ series. VentSure is the most common on residential roofs in this area, available in 4-foot sections with either a shingle-over or rigid profile depending on the year of installation. DeckSeal tends to appear on newer premium builds and features a wider nail flange. The materials are different, so you can’t mix sections from one series into the other and expect the cap shingles to sit right.
Neither VentSure nor DeckSeal is the same as the cheap rolled vent mesh you’ll find at a big-box store. The Owens Corning product has a molded profile with an internal weather filter designed to keep wind-driven rain out of the attic during Texas thunderstorms. That filter is usually the first component to degrade, which is why aftermarket generic mesh is a false economy. We’ll always price the Owens Corning OEM material first, then show you a comparable aftermarket option if the budget calls for it. Birchbark Roofing Fort Worth is an independent roofing company and not affiliated with Owens Corning, but we specify their vent material because it holds up to our climate better than most anything else we’ve pulled off a roof.

Signs Your Owens Corning Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing
- Heat buildup in the upstairs rooms. A working ridge vent lets attic heat escape evenly across the ridge. When the vent collapses or the filter clogs with dust and pollen, that hot air has nowhere to go, and you feel it first in the rooms directly under the attic. This is the most common complaint we hear in Fort Worth between June and September.
- Shingle granule buildup in the gutter directly below the ridge. Ridge vent material doesn’t shed granules, but the cap shingles covering it do. If they’re degrading faster than the rest of the roof, the vent underneath is often trapping moisture against the underside of the shingles. It’s a cycle: failed vent, wet shingle, faster failure.
- Visible cracks, warping, or brittleness along the exposed vent edges. Owens Corning vent material is rigid plastic that turns brittle under a Texas sun over time. If you can see the ridge from the yard and the edge looks wavy or split, that vent is no longer doing its job even if the shingles on top look okay.
- Water staining on the ceiling near exterior walls or along the ridge line. The VentSure weather filter is designed to block wind-driven rain. When that filter degrades, a strong north Texas thunderstorm can push water over the ridge and into the attic. It’s usually a slow drip, not a flood, but it shows up eventually.
- Higher electric bills during summer months. An attic that holds heat radiates it down into the living space all afternoon and evening. Your AC runs longer and cycles more often. When we replace a failed ridge vent, homeowners often notice the difference on the next billing cycle.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Worth, a full Owens Corning ridge vent replacement runs from about $45 to $75 per linear foot installed, with most single-family homes falling between $1,800 and $3,400 for the complete job when you factor in cap shingles, underlayment, and the removal of the old vent material. A smaller ranch style home with a short, simple ridge sits at the lower end. A two-story with multiple ridge lines, steep pitches, or an older roof deck that needs repair moves toward the higher end.
Here’s what’s in the number:
- Parts: Owens Corning VentSure or DeckSeal ridge vent sections, cap shingles matched to your existing roof where possible, and a compatible ridge underlayment.
- Labor: Removing the old vent material, inspecting the ridge decking, installing the new vent system, and shingling over it.
- Cleanup: Shoe covers inside the home, drop cloths through any interior access, and a photo of the completed debris removal before the crew loads up.
- Warranty: Every Birchbark job is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the work isn’t right, we make it right, period.
You’ll have the exact number in writing before any work starts. That’s how we do every job, including ridge vent replacements.
DIY or Call Us?
Ridge vent installation means working at the peak of your roof, and in Fort Worth that often means a 6/12 pitch or steeper. It’s not a spring-tension danger like a garage door, but it’s still the highest, most exposed point on the house, and a fall from a ridge is a life-changing event. We recommend homeowners limit their involvement to ground level inspection. Look for visible warping from the yard, check the gutters for granule buildup, and note any water stains inside. Leave the ladder work to a trained crew who does this every week.
What we’ve seen from homeowner attempts is usually fixable but expensive: wrong vent material nailed into the old track, cap shingles misaligned so the next wind lifts them, or a vent installed without the weather filter, which means the first spring thunderstorm puts water in the attic. The materials for this job cost what they cost. The skill is in the flashing, the alignment, and the cleanup. If you’re on the fence, call us at (682) 990-0964 and we’ll tell you honestly whether the job is worth hiring out. Sometimes, for a small repair, it isn’t. We’ll say so.
FAQs
In Fort Worth’s climate, an Owens Corning ridge vent typically lasts 15 to 20 years before the filter degrades or the material becomes brittle. Intense UV exposure and frequent thermal cycling shorten that lifespan compared to cooler climates. The cap shingles over the vent usually need replacement around year 15 regardless of vent condition.
Most ridge vent failures cannot be repaired because the vent material itself breaks down, not just a single section. If only one 4-foot section is damaged, a sectional patch is sometimes possible, but mismatched old and new vent material often creates gaps at the seams. We’ll tell you which situation you have before quoting anything. Call (682) 990-0964 and we’ll walk you through it.
A standard single-ridge replacement on a Fort Worth home takes one full day for a crew of two to three technicians. Homes with multiple ridge lines or steep pitches may take two days. We’ll give you a time window in writing along with your price, and we’ll coordinate the schedule around pets and kids as needed.
Yes. We stock VentSure 4-foot sections and cap shingles on our trucks for routine replacements, and we can source DeckSeal sections from our local Fort Worth supplier when a home requires them. We also work with GAF and CertainTeed materials if you prefer a different manufacturer, but for ridge vent specifically, the Owens Corning product is what we recommend most often.
